PREVENT DUTY & ANTI-RADICALISATION POLICY

1. Purpose

Boxology Academy is committed to safeguarding learners, staff and participants from all forms of harm, including radicalisation and extremism.

The Prevent Duty forms part of the UK Government’s wider safeguarding strategy to protect individuals from being drawn into terrorism or extremist ideologies.

Boxology Academy promotes inclusion, respect, critical thinking and emotional wellbeing across all training environments.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Staff

  • Tutors

  • Volunteers

  • Learners

  • Contractors

  • Online and in-person training

3. Our Commitment

Boxology Academy will:

  • Promote safe and respectful learning environments

  • Encourage open discussion and critical thinking

  • Challenge discrimination and hate-based behaviour

  • Recognise vulnerability factors

  • Report concerns appropriately

  • Treat Prevent as part of safeguarding responsibilities

4. What Is Radicalisation?

Radicalisation refers to the process by which an individual may become vulnerable to extremist ideologies or harmful influences.

Extremism may include:

  • Religious extremism

  • Political extremism

  • Hate-based ideologies

  • Violent extremist narratives

  • Online grooming into extremist groups

5. Vulnerability Factors

Individuals may become vulnerable due to:

  • Isolation

  • Trauma

  • Mental health difficulties

  • Social exclusion

  • Identity struggles

  • Exposure to extremist content online

  • Grooming or manipulation

Having vulnerabilities does not mean somebody will become radicalised.

6. Recognising Concerns

Potential warning signs may include:

  • Sudden behavioural changes

  • Extreme views or intolerance

  • Fixation on extremist content

  • Isolation from peers

  • Promotion of violence or hatred

  • Concerning online behaviour

Concerns should never be ignored.

7. Reporting Concerns

Any Prevent concern must be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

The DSL will:

  • Assess the concern

  • Record information securely

  • Seek advice where appropriate

  • Refer concerns to relevant safeguarding or Prevent agencies if necessary

8. Online Safety

Boxology Academy recognises the role online platforms can play in radicalisation.

Learners and staff are expected to:

  • Use respectful communication

  • Avoid sharing extremist or hateful content

  • Report concerning online behaviour

9. Inclusion & Respect

Boxology Academy promotes:

  • Diversity

  • Inclusion

  • Equality

  • Respect for different backgrounds and beliefs

We do not tolerate:

  • Hate speech

  • Discrimination

  • Intimidation

  • Extremist behaviour

10. Staff Responsibilities

All staff and tutors are expected to:

  • Maintain awareness of safeguarding responsibilities

  • Report concerns appropriately

  • Promote respectful learning environments

  • Uphold professional conduct

11. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if guidance or legislation changes.
